‘Melania Trump’ Returns to ‘Late Show’ for First Time Since Awkward Election Night Special (Video)

Laura Benanti character is getting through White House residency one giant glass of wine at a time

Laura Benanti’s “Melania Trump” returned to “The Late Show” Tuesday night for the first time since her uncomfortable appearance on Stephen Colbert’s Election Night special. This one went a lot smoother, and was far funnier — so no apology needed today, Laura.

In the latest sketch, Benanti-as-Melania guzzles wine to get through her recent move to the White House. She’s gonna need a bigger glass …

The faux first lady told Colbert that she really looked for an excuse to stay behind in New York City after son Barron’s school let out — unfortunately, the Comcast guy didn’t take as long as Melania might have liked. The things you used to be able to count on.

“Here’s the thing: America took a vow, and Donald Trump is our president. For better or worse, for richer or even richer. In sickness and in no health care,” a bummed-out Benanti said in character. “And we much honor that, no matter how much America fantasizes about being with Justin Trudeau.”

She also dropped a terrific joke about that infamous Israel hand-slap heard around the world.
