Melissa McCarthy Decks Kenan Thompson, Dances ‘Til She Nearly Drops in ‘SNL’ Promo (Video)

The show, featuring musical guest Imagine Dragons, also marks Seth Meyers’ final episode

Melissa McCarthy will return to “Saturday Night Live” this weekend with musical guest Imagine Dragons.

The show will mark McCarthy’s third go as host, but the funny lady doesn’t take kindly to the common locution that suggests this one will be “the charm.”

McCarthy took cast veteran Kenan Thompson‘s innocent uttering of the idiom as a suggestion her first two hosting attempts were terrible. Fists flew from the diminutive “Mike & Molly” star.

In a playful jab against rival Fox, who’s broadcasting the Super Bowl, NBC is billing the pre-game episode of SNL as the “Live Ball War: The Game.” They hope it catches on, or at least that it diverts some attention away from the Fox broadcast. McCarthy thinks it will catch on.

Later in the promos, McCarthy gets duped into buying a newspaper knockoff Olympic torch from a stand outside of 30 Rock, and she and Thompson cramped up following a very minimal amount of dancing.

Seth Meyers, SNL head writer and Weekend Update anchor, also bids farewell to the show on Saturday. He takes over “Late Night” from Jimmy Fallon on Feb. 24.
