"Tomb Raider" is getting another go on the big screen. MGM has acquired the film rights to the popular videogame line and will develop the new action adventure franchise in partnership with GK Films, both companies announced on Wednesday.
GK Films had previously acquired the rights in 2011 from interactive entertainment company Square Enix Ltd, which absorbed Eidos, the London-based videogame company that created the first "Tomb Raider" game in 1996.

Graham King, the founder of GK Films, will produce the reboot.
“Graham is one of the premier producers in this industry and I am delighted to be working with him on this exciting franchise," MGM CEO Gary Barber said in a statement. "We look forward to developing more projects together in the future."
Paramount previously adapted the videogame with 2001's "Lara Croft: Tomb Raider" and the 2003 sequel "Tomb Raider: Cradle of Life," both of which starred Angelina Jolie as the titular tomb explorer.
While the movies weren't praised by critics, they grossed a total of $432 million worldwide. The videogame franchise — rebooted earlier this month by Square Enix — is a blockbuster in itself, having sold over 35 million copies worldwide.
No casting or plot details for the big-screen reboot have been announced yet.
