Jack Reynor's career just got a huge shot in the arm.
The young Irish actor has scored a starring role in "Transformers 4" opposite Mark Wahlberg, Michael Bay said on his blog.
The director said he spotted in in an Irish movie called "What Richard Did" and felt he had a certain star quality.
“He is an Irish kid that came to America with 30 bucks in his pocket," Bay wrote. "Pretty ballsy. Seriously who does that?"
"This kid is the real deal," he added.
Bay also hit back at rumors that "Transfomers 4" is a reboot and assured fans that the latest film is a wholly new adventure pitting Autobots against Decepticons. He also gave some details about the setup for this film, saying it takes place four years after the events of 2011's "Transformers: Dark of the Moon."
"The story makes a very natural transition, and reason as to why we have a whole new cast," Bay wrote. "This Transformers will feel very different then the last three. We are embarking on a new trilogy.”
Bay has an eye for developing young talent. Although Steven Spielberg gets the credit for identifying Shia LaBeouf's leading-man potential, Bay took the actor to the next level by trusting him to play Sam Witwicky in three "Transformers" films. It's also unlikely that Megan Fox would be as universally coveted had she not bestrode a motorcycle so seductively in "Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen."
