Watch Michael Bolton (of House Bolton) Sing Retro ‘Game of Thrones’ Theme (Video)

“Honest Trailers” celebrates its Emmy nomination with an awards tribute

We didn’t realize “Game of Thrones” needed another theme song until today.

To celebrate its Emmy nomination for Outstanding Short Form Variety Series, “Honest Trailers” released a compilation of retro-style theme songs for other Emmy nominees, including Hulu’s “The Handmaid’s Tale” and Netflix’s “Stranger Things.”

Singer Michael Bolton contributed the piece’s finale: a “Game of Thrones” power ballad. He’s been a guest on the webseries before, so it’s not surprising that he was just hanging out in the Screen Junkies studios.

In the video, Bolton says he’ll help the team celebrate by recruiting some of his friends to make some theme songs. This includes ’90s television theme song queen Paula Cole with a “Dawson’s Creek” cover for “The Handmaid’s Tale,” Brian McKnight with a “Cheers”-inspired tune for NBC’s “This Is Us,” and Natasha Bedingfield for “Stranger Things” with a song about friendship.

Bolton, who’s been making a name for himself in the comedy world with appearances on “Honest Trailers” and Netflix’s “Big, Sexy Valentine’s Day Special,” steals the show though with a “Game of Thrones” theme.

Despite the show not being eligible for the Emmys this year, he said he did one anyway because “House Bolton does what it wants.”

The song — whose video includes Bolton in a fur coat — talks about how love isn’t a “game of thrones,” how you need to “hold the door,” and makes fun of the large size of the HBO epic’s cast.
