The actor is set to begin eight weeks of chemotherapy and radiation treatment

Michael Douglas has been diagonosed with a throat tumor.

Douglas is set to begin eight weeks of chemotherapy and radiation treatment. Doctors expect the 65-year-old Academy Award-winning actor to make a complete recovery, his' spokesperson said.

"I am very optimistic," Douglas said in a statement.

His latest project, "Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps" will hit theaters Sept. 24.

The tumor was first reported by People magazine.
