‘Pulp Fiction,’ ‘Django’ Producers Michael Shamberg and Stacey Sher Splitting After 22 Years

The producing pair will continue to make television together

Producers Michael Shamberg and Stacey Sher will be splitting up after 22 years, they told TheWrap exclusively on Wednesday.

Sher told TheWrap: “We’re splitting up but continuing happily with great love to make the rest of our movies together. We love each other, it’s very amicable.”

Said Shamberg: “I second that emotion. We have different types of movies we want to make. It’s very personal. I couldn’t put a finger on it. Our taste diverges somewhat, which you’ll see going forward. But we haven’t figured it out, quite.”

The producing pair, with classics like “Get Shorty,” “Pulp Fiction” and “Django Unchained” in their canon of work, will likely be shutting Double Feature Films, but will continue to make television programs together. Shamberg and Sher are among the most respected producers in Hollywood, working consistently with top filmmakers including Steven Soderbergh, Quentin Tarantino at their most inventive and daring.

The producers spoke at TheWrap’s Grill conference in September about the challenges of filmmaking and leaping into the world of crowdfunding.

The producers have told colleagues that their interests are diverging after more than two decades of work, which has as much to do with changes to the challenged business of making movies as changes to their working interests. Shamberg and Sher just finished producing a crowd-funded movie with Zach Braff called “Wish I Was Here.”

They also have a movie starring Liam Neeson, “Walk Among the Tombstones,” that they produced jointly and will be released by Universal next year.

They have a first-look deal at AMC as a producing pair, and that will remain intact.
