After thanking the crowd of about 150 donors for showing up on a Monday, the First Lady turned her attention to the imminent task of winning a second term for, as she described him, “our phenomenal, outstanding, very cute President of the United States.”

Framing her comments with the same two terms she evoked the previous night at the home of Warner Bros. chairman and CEO Barry Meyer, Mrs. Obama stated her purpose at Monday’s event: “It’s all about values and vision.” She also touched on similar concerns and themes — education, economic stability, restoring the country’s struggling middle class, realizing health care reform, and making the American Dream attainable for all — at the core of her remarks.

The First Lady revisited her own family history, as well as her husband’s humble beginnings, in making her case that, “like so many people in this country, Barack knows the American Dream because he’s lived it.” Of their early days as a couple, she recalled, “when Barack and I first started out, we were building our lives together – so in love, but so broke,” and their combined student loan debt surpassed their mortgage each month.

Next, she trotted out her list of President Obama’s first-term greatest hits, including health care reform, steps forward for women’s reproductive rights, caps on student loan debt and job creation, before warning guests that “all of it’s at stake, [it] can all be gone.”

Ending on a high note, Obama pitched the idea that, especially if each member of the gathered group influenced just one other person’s choice at the polls this November, “we’re absolutely going to win this election.”

Spotted at Monday’s lunch, which cost at least $3,500 per person to attend, was Rep. Howard Berman, who's currently fighting for his own re-election against fellow San Fernando Valley Democrat Brad Sherman.

Proceeds from the lunch event, along with the hauls from Sunday's fund-raisers at Meyer's and Gwen Stefani's homes, will add to the Obama Victory Fund, a joint fundraising committee of Obama for America, the Democratic National Committee and several state Democratic parties.
