Miniseries About WWII Hero Felix Sparks in the Works at History

Project will chronicle Sparks’ extensive campaign to liberate Europe

The exploits of WWII hero Felix Sparks (pictured, above center), who led the 157th Infantry Regiment through a campaign to liberate Europe, are being developed as a miniseries by the History channel.

The project will follow Sparks and his regiment, comprised primarily of cowboys, Native Americans and Mexican Americans, as they battle their way to become one of the most decorated combat units of the war.

Dubbed “The Liberator,” it will chronicle “the epic battlefield odyssey of maverick U.S. Army officer Felix ‘Shotgun’ Sparks and his infantry unit as they fought for over five hundred days to liberate Europe,” following Sparks’ journey from the Allied invasion of Italy to the liberation of the concentration camp of Dachau, according to History.

Jeb Stuart (“Die Hard,” “Another 48 Hours”) is writing the miniseries, which is being produced by Unique Features.

History has seen tremendous success with the miniseries format recently, with projects such as “Hatfields & McCoys” and “The Bible” drawing impressive ratings.. The network is also developing a miniseries, “Sons of Liberty,” centered on the American Revolution, and  has given the green light to a miniseries about magician Harry Houdini, which Adrien Brody will star in.
