Morgan Freeman Explains Why ‘Transcendence’ Is a Bad Idea in Second Teaser Trailer (Video)

Unlike Johnny Depp, he thinks robots taking over the world is a bad thing

Johnny Depp is all about making machines smarter than humans in “Transcendence,” but Morgan Freeman uses his deep, soulful and soothing voice to point out in a second teaser that it could lead to the annihilation of mankind.

“What if humanities next evolution wasn’t human at all? What happens when artificial intelligence becomes self aware?” Freeman asks while narrating the trailer (above). “Is it the key to immortality or is it the path toward annihilation?”

“Transcendence” follows two scientists, played by Depp and Rebecca Hall, working toward turning the theory of Technological Singularity into reality, while a radical anti-technology organization tries to stop them, because they don’t want super-smart robots destroying the human race once computers become self-aware.

It sounds like Freeman is a member of the latter party.

Oscar-winning cinematographer Wally Pfister (“Inception”) makes directorial debut when Warner Bros. releases the Christopher Nolan-produced science fiction film on April 17.
