“Morning Joe” co-host Joe Scarborough said, “Hillary Clinton may not have gone to Wisconsin, but the Russians apparently did,” on Thursday morning when discussing the 2016 presidential election.

“It could have had a huge impact,” Scarborough said.

Scarborough and co-host Mika Brzezinski were discussing a recent McClatchy report that says investigators at the House and Senate Intelligence committees and the Justice Department are examining whether the Trump campaign’s digital operation, which was led by Jared Kushner, helped Russia’s potential meddling.

Citing the McClatchy report, Brzezinski said sources “doubt” Russians would have known what specific areas to target without help from inside.

“After the election, the Trump campaign was proud to talk about how they knew where to find the votes in Wisconsin,” Scarborough said. “It’s something Jared headed up… they could micro-target these areas… snatch these states away from Hillary Clinton.”

Scarborough said it “now appears” the Russians also knew how to micro-target, with “Facebook, fake news stories and other ways.”

Guest Mark Halperin said there is “no doubt” now that something was done by the Trump campaign.

“Potentially people associated with the Trump campaign and maybe the campaign itself is what is being investigated, it doesn’t mean it’s true,” Halperin said.

Scarborough recently announced he was leaving the GOP to become an Independent.
