‘Morning Joe’ Pokes Fun at Ted Cruz After Porn Tweet: ‘Most Important Story of the Day’

“Why did he do this?” Mika Brzezinski asks

The hosts of MSNBC’s “Morning Joe” spent some time on Tuesday’s show poking fun at Senator Ted Cruz, who was the focus of Twitter Monday night after his Twitter account “liked” a hardcore porn clip.

“Now to the most important story of the day,” Mika Brzezinski said. “Shortly after midnight last night, the Twitter account of Senator Ted Cruz.”

Joe Scarborough wasn’t as amused as his cohost or contributors: “Oh come on, I don’t want to,” he said. “Why did he do this?” Brzezinski asked.

Contributor Mike Barnicle insisted that the story was “important,” and that “the public has a right to know,” before launching into the specifics of Cruz’s already-infamous “like.”

Here’s a screenshot of the “like” that sent Twitter into a frenzy Monday night:

Early Tuesday, Cruz senior communications adviser Catherine Frazier tweeted an inevitable explanation: “The offensive tweet posted on  account earlier has been removed by staff and reported to Twitter.”

The two minute, 20 second video begins with a blonde mom walking in on two “teenagers,” um, expressing their love for one another. You can probably guess where it goes from there.

The “Morning Joe” hosts joined Twitter in not letting Cruz — a married father of two who joined Republicans last year in declaring pornography “a public health crisis that is destroying the life of millions” — off the hook for this. You can see some great Twitter reactions here.

The  TV personalities also referenced the time a soft core porn actress starred in one of Cruz’s campaign ads. In 2016, the Cruz campaign pulled an attack ad against Marco Rubio after it was found out that Amy Lindsay, who portrayed one of the characters in the ad, had previously worked in erotic films.

Scarborough was anxious to get back to talking about “important” things, but Brzezinski couldn’t help letting out a few giggles.
