Danny Boyle, director of the indie hit film set in India, "Slumdog Millionaire," took the Directors Guild of America's top award on Saturday night. The film, a heartwarming tale about a penniless Indian teenager who revisits his life as a contestant on the Indian version of "Who Wants to Be A Millionaire," continues to gain momentum in the Hollywood awards season.

The win comes as Oscar ballots have arrived in the mailboxes of the 6,000 voters of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.

The cast of "Slumdog" won the ensemble award at the Screen Actors Guild awards earlier this month, and also won best picture at the Producers Guild. The film also won Best Picture in the drama category at the Golden Globes.
