Brand is accused of snatching a cell phone from a paparazzo and hurling it through a window
Shutterbugs beware: take Russell Brand's picture at your own peril.
An arrest warrant has been issued for the English comedian by the New Orleans Police Department, police spokesman Gary Flot confirmed to TheWrap.
Brand is accused of snatching the iPhone of a paparazzo and hurling it through a building window Monday night.
Flot said the warrant has been issued for Simple Criminal Damage in the amount of $700.
A spokeswoman for the comedian did not immediately respond to requests for comment. But Brand appeared to make light of the incident on Twitter.
"Since Steve Jobs died I cannot bear to see anyone use an iphone irreverently, what I did was a tribute to his memory," the actor tweeted on Wednesday.
Brand has been filming an untitled film for director and writer Diablo Cody ("Juno") in New Orleans. The movie co-stars Octavia Spencer and Holly Hunter and centers on a plane crash survivor's crisis of faith.
