The actor is billed as Carlos Estevez in the upcoming action film
Charlie Sheen has gone back to his birth name, Carlos Estevez, for his role in the upcoming Robert Rodriguez movie “Machete Kills.”
Sheen’s reworked billing is featured prominently in posters for the film, which will be directed and produced by Rodriguez and released domestically by Open Road Films on Sept. 13. Danny Trejo, Mel Gibson, Sofia Vergara and Lady Gaga co-star in the action film.
The new name could easily be overlooked among the artwork promoting the film. The poster featuring Vergara has her in a bullet-spitting bustier, and Gaga is toting a pistol and wearing a wolf skin in hers.
It's the first time in his career that he won't be billed as Charlie Sheen, and is turnaround for the star of TV’s “Anger Management.
“I don't wake up feeling Latino. I'm a white guy in America," he said in a 2012 interview on the Univision TV network. "I was born in New York and grew up in Malibu."
The former “Two and a Half Men” star said that he asked to be called Charlie at age 4 to avoid being confused with his uncle, who shares his first name. “We would both respond to the name Carlos, so I changed my name,” the actor explained.
Name changing runs in the family for Charlie, or Carlos. His father Martin Sheen was born Ramon Antonio Gerardo Estevez and changed his name when he moved to Hollywood.
