Open Road will distribute FilmDistrict titles including Luc Besson action film “Escape From M.S. One” and a “Red Dawn” remake
With veteran distribution executive Bob Berney on his way out of the company, FilmDistrict has reached deals to distribute its 2012 titles through Open Road and Sony, an individual close to one of these studios confirmed to TheWrap.
Open Road will release Luc Besson action film "Escape From M.S. One" (formerly titled "Lock-Out") on April 20, as well as a remake of the 1983 Cold War movie "Red Dawn" on Nov. 2.
Also under the deal, a third as-yet unnamed title will also be going through Open Road, which is headed by former Lionsgate executive Tom Ortenberg.
Meanwhile, several other FilmDistrict movies will go through various Sony labels under a separate arrangement, the individual said.
Representatives for the studios have yet to return calls from TheWrap seeking comment.
FilmDistrict's backers, GK Films impresarios Graham King and Tim Headington, decided to consolidate FilmDistrict's operations in November following the flop of Johnny Depp film "The Rum Diary."
FilmDistrict CEO Peter Schlessel, a former Sony exec, negotiated these alternative distribution arrangements.
Deadline first reported the news.
