It's unclear who will replace the senior vice president
Joseph Epstein is out at Fox after just six months as the studio’s senior vice president for digital marketing strategy, according to two individuals familiar with the departure. Wednesday is his last day.
Epstein (left) joined Fox in January after serving as the chief marketing officer for the Digital Broadcasting Group and the vice president of digital marketing strategy at Sony. At the time of the Epstein’s hire, his boss, EVP of marketing Debbie Miller, described the position as “integral to the overall success” of the marketing department.
Fox declined to comment on the matter.
Digital marketing has proven critical as potential moviegoers spend more time at their computer, on their phones and communicating across various social networks. Studios have argued for the importance of its stars communicating early and often on social media to build anticipation for a movie while Facebook, YouTube, Tumblr and Twitter have offered themselves as essential tools for any movie studio.
Google recently released a study evincing the utility of its search and advertising data in predicting box office results.
It remains unclear who will replace Epstein.
