James McAvoy has dropped out of Summit Entertainment and Mandate Pictures' untitled comedy, and will be replaced by Joseph Gordon-Levitt.

The comedy, formerly titled "I'm With Cancer," now will start shooting next week in Vancouver. It co-stars Seth Rogen, Anna Kendrick, Bryce Dallas Howard, Anjelica Huston and Philip Baker Hall.

Rogen said in a statement, "It’s incredibly unfortunate that circumstances outside of everyone’s control have taken James away from the project, but, with James’ blessing, we were able to have Joseph step in to take on the role of Adam. We all look forward to working with James in the future."

Rogen is a producer on the picture, along with Evan Goldberg and Ben Karlin. Will Reiser, who wrote the script, is executive producer with Mandate president Nathan Kahane.

Jonathan Levine is directing, having stepped in for the previously attached Nicole Holofcener.

In a statement, Levine said, “I feel extremely lucky that our film has found an exceptional actor to step into the role of Adam. I have admired Joseph’s work since 'Brick.'"
