Sony's "The Green Hornet" will be released in IMAX theaters when it premieres on Jan. 14, 2011, the studio and IMAX announced on Wednesday.
Last April, Sony pushed back the release date for its big-budget adaptation of the old-time radio and television show from Dec. 22, 2010, to Martin Luther King weekend. At the time, Sony said the move had been made so the movie could get the 3D treatment.
The Seth Rogen-Cameron Diaz film will be the first released on IMAX in 2011.
"Superhero movies typically play very well with IMAX audiences, making the release of The Green Hornet a great way to kick off our 2011 slate," IMAX Chief Executive Officer Richard L. Gelfond said in a statement.
