‘The Heiress,’ Starring Jessica Chastain, Sets Broadway Opening Date

"The Heiress," starring Jessica Chastain and "Downton Abbey's" Dan Stevens, will play a limited run on Broadway at the Walter Kerr Theatre

"The Heiress," starring Jessica Chastain, David Strathairn, Dan Stevens and Judith Ivey, will open Nov. 1 for a limited run through Feb. 10, 2013 at the Walter Kerr Theatre.

Getty ImagesThe play, produced by Paula Wagner, Roy Furman and Stephanie P. McClelland, will mark the Broadway debut of Chastain and Stevens, a star of the PBS series "Downton Abbey."

Tony nominated playwright and director Moisés Kaufman ("33 Variations," "The Laramie Project") is set to direct.

Chastain will take on the role of Catherine Sloper, the character Olivia de Havilland played in 1947's Oscar-winning film adaptation. The actress was nominated for a Academy Award for best supporting actress for her performance as Celia Foote in "The Help." Her latest film, "Lawless," is set for release on Aug. 29.

Strathairn last appeared on Broadway in 2003 in a staged reading of "Salome," with Al Pacino and Marisa Tomei. Chastain appeared with Pacino in Los Angeles in 2006 in another production of "Salome," which the focus of a film called 2011 "Wilde Salome."

Stevens has previously appeared on stage in the West End production of Tom Stoppard’s "Arcadia," André Previn’s "Every Good Boy Deserves Favour" at the National Theatre in 2009 and Noel Coward's "Hay Fever" in 2006 at the Royal Haymarket Theatre.

Ivey is a two-time Tony Award winner for "Hurlyburly" and "Streaming." She last appeared on Broadway in the 2001 production of "Follies."
