Enthused by the recent L.A.-based productions of Indian films "My Name Is Kahn" and "Kites," the City of Los Angeles is hoping to host even more Bollywood filmmaking.
With more collaboration in mind, the city signed a co-production deal with a coalition of Indian producers, forming what it calls the Los Angeles-Indian Film Council.
The agreement was announced Wednesday by the Motion Picture Association of America.
"This declaration reinforces our city's commitment to attracting international production," said Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa, speaking at an event held on the Paramount lot Wednesday to christen to new joint venture.
The event also featured Paramount Pictures chairman and CEO Brad Grey, California film commissioner Amy Lemish, MPAA special policy advisor Fritz Attaway, and Indian producers Bobby Bedi and L. Suresh.
