IFC Films has acquired U.S. distribution rights to "The Red Riding Trilogy," a series of three fictional accounts surrounding the Yorkshire Ripper serial killer in 1970s and '80s England.
The three films in the series, based on a quartet of books by David Peace, are titled "1974," "1980" and "1983." The project as a whole was produced by Michael Winterbottom and Revolution Films, and each film is directed by a different helmer: Julian Jarrold ("1974"), "Man on Wire" director James Marsh ("1980") and Anand Tucker ("1983").
The project was financed by and has already aired on Channel 4 in Britain.
Each of the "Riding" pics will be treated separately by IFC, and each will get a theatrical and VOD release in the fall.
Rebecca Hall, Mark Addy, Sean Bean and Paddy Considine, among others, appear in the trilogy.
