On-location filming in Los Angeles has slowed to a crawl after two straight quarters of growth, according toFilmLA, in part because a state incentives program has run out of funds.
The cycle's production days were virtually flat compared to the same period a year ago, with on-location feature filming taking the biggest dive -- a drop of about 9 percent -- between June 28 and Sept. 5. TV production fell about 1 percent during that period.
A 23 percent uptick in commercial production prevented the quarter from being a total bust.
The California Film Commission, a tax credit incentive meant to stall runaway production, had already spent all of its funds for the fiscal year and is currently servicing a waiting list of projects.
