MPAA Names Former Congressional Counsel as Sr. VP for Global Policy

Shanna Winters will oversee day-to-day operations of the foreign policy team

The Motion Picture Assn. of America has named Shanna Winters, a staffer for eight years in the House of Representatives, as sr. vice-president for global policy.

In this newly created position, Winters will oversee the day-to-day operation of the MPAA's global policy team and policies, the organization announced Tuesday. She will report to Michael O'Leary, sr. exec vice-president, global policy and external affairs.

Winters most recently served as Democratic Chief Counsel for the House Committee on Foreign Relations, under now-retired Congressman Howard Berman (D-CA) and then under Congressman Eliot Engel (D-NY).

“As studios place increasingly greater emphasis on markets around the world, Shanna will prove to be an invaluable member of our team,” MPAA chairman and chief executive Christopher Dodd said in a statement.

The MPAA created a global policy operation in Washington in 2011 to help bolster and support the overall international operations of the organization. It has offices in Europe and Asia as well as Canada, Brazil and Mexico.
