‘Pee-wee’s Playhouse’ Coming to Blu-Ray, in a 45-Episode Box Set (Exclusive)

Entire series is being restored and the box set will include bonus features for release next year

That maniacal laugh is back.

"Pee-wee's Playhouse" will debut on Blu-ray thanks to a new deal with Shout Factory. That means that Pee-wee, Cowboy Curtis, Reba the Mail Lady, Captain Carl, Chairry, Pterri and the rest of the Playhouse gang will now be available in high-definition and in one complete box set.

Shout! plans to release "Pee-wee's Playhouse: The Complete Series" as a multi-disc set in 2014. The discs will feature all 45 episodes, along with "Pee-wee's Christmas Special" and special bonus features.

The company is in the process of restoring the show, which originally ran on CBS from 1986 to 1990. It will preview its work at Comic-Con this week.

For readers who did not grow up in watching Saturday morning children's programming during the '80s, the show centered on a fun loving, bow-tie sporting man-child and his adventures in a magical house. It put a post-modern spin on family entertainment.

Creator and star Paul Reubens retired the character in the 1990s but has subsequently revived him for appearances on Conan O'Brien and Jimmy Kimmel's late-night programs, as well as a well-received stage run on Broadway.

“The restoration has made Pee-wee’s Playhouse look astonishing," Reubens said in a statement. "This has been an enormous undertaking, and I am truly excited to work with Shout! Factory."

The pact for "Pee-wee's Playhouse" includes worldwide entertainment rights, digital rights and broadcast platforms and extends Shout! Factory's habit of raiding television and film history to unearth cult treasures like "Freaks and Geeks" and “Mystery Science Theater 3000″ and repackage them in lovingly detailed box sets.

Shout! Factory is projected to make $50 million in revenue in 2013 and puts out an average of between 15 to 20 new projects a month, its founders told TheWrap earlier this year.
