IFC Films and Austin's South By Southwest (SXSW) Film Conference and Festival are partnering to release three festival films via video on demand.
In addition to screening at the nine day festival, the movies will be released simultaneously in 40 million homes nationwide via cable’s on demand platform.
Films being rolled out on through the partnership include Bryan Poyser's comedy "Lovers of Hate," Shane Meadows mockumentary "Le Donk & Scor-Zay-See," and Emmett Malloy’s rock documentary "The White Stripes Under Great White Northern Lights." Poyser's film focuses on a love triangle involving two estranged brothers, Meadow movie centers on a failed musician mentorship of a rap prodigy, and Malloy's doumentary chronicles rock band The White Stripes' 2007 tour of Canada.
Last year, the festival and the studio collaborated on a similar project, which made Joe Swanberg's "Alexander the Last" available on demand. The modified multi-media roll out has become a stable of the festival circuit recently. Other film festivals, most notably Sundance, have also experimented with cable on demand premieres.
