'Spider-Man' Broadway Actor is Lucky, Doctors Say

Christopher Tierney, the 31-year-old actor who fell during a performance of “Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark,” is lucky to be alive, let alone back on his feet and hoping to return to the troubled show.

Tierney tucked his body and rolled sideways as he fell more than 20 feet at last Monday’s performance, doctors told his family, according to the New York Times.

“My understanding is that Chris is fortunate to be alive,” Mr. Tierney’s father, Timothy Tierney, told the Times in a telephone interview Sunday.

Tierney’s father said his son was falling headfirst but managed to land on his right side in the basement below the stage at the Foxwoods Theater. He suffered a fractured skull, a broken scapula, a broken bone close to his elbow, four broken ribs, a bruised lung and three fractured vertebrae.
