Laughs were all the ammunition “Date Night” needed to topple “Clash of the Titans” on the DVD sales and rental charts. The Steve Carrell and Tina Fey comedy was the most rented and sold disc last week, according to Rentrak.
In fact, comedies were a popular choice overall. Also debuting last week, “Death at a Funeral,” a remake of a British comedy of the same name with Chris Rock and Tracy Morgan, came in at second place on both charts.
In its third week of release, “Clash” had to settle for third place on the rental and sales charts. “Kick-Ass,” which debuted strongly last week, showed some slippage, falling to fifth place on both charts.
The week’s other release “Letters to God” failed to crack the top 10 list of most rented DVDs, but sold the sixth-most discs.
Next week brings the release of Miley Cyrus’ summertime romantic drama “The Last Song” and Brendan Fraser’s kiddie comedy “Furry Vengeance,” both of which served as pinatas for critics when they hit theaters last spring.
