Will his character survive until midnight?
Ethan Hawke can currently be seen in theaters verbally fighting with the love of his life in "Before Midnight," but on June 7, he'll be physically fighting off complete strangers in "The Purge."
A new clip from the Universal Pictures release features Hawke struggling to stay alive while wrestling two masked home invaders wielding an ax and a shotgun. The odds, obviously, are not on his side.
Fortunately, leading men and women in horror movies have a habit of beating those seemingly impossible odds.
Written and directed by James DeMonaco ("The Negotiator"), "The Purge" takes place in an alternate America, which sanctions a 12-hour free-for-all crime spree in order to purge society of its killer instinct. The futuristic tactic to lower crime rate has its perks. But if you're a family harboring a man wanted by an angry mob exercising its government-given right to murder, the purge can be a painful ordeal.
"Game of Thrones" star Lena Headey plays Hawke's wife, while Adelaide Kane ("Neighbours") and Max Burkholder ("Parenthood") play his children.
