Stephen Gaghan to direct thriller for Lionsgate with Brad Pitt in line for a lead role
Stephen Gaghan is set to direct from his own script the crime thriller “Candy Store,” which has been set up at Lionsgate, an individual with knowledge of the project told TheWrap.
An offer is out to Brad Pitt for the role of Mark Swain, although the filmmakers are said to be interested in a long line of actors should that deal not come to fruition, including Christian Bale, Ben Affleck, Matt Damon and Bradley Cooper.
An offer is also out to the actor Christoph Waltz, who co-starred with Pitt in Quentin Tarantino's "Inglourious Basterds," for the role of Black Zenga.
The story follows an elite, highly trained deep-cover operative who loses everything, ultimately disappearing into Brooklyn, where he must start again. He washes up as a beat cop, only to discover the global organization he was dedicated to fighting is also operating in his new backyard.
