harvey weinsteinIFC Films announced Thursday it has acquired worldwide rights excluding Canada to "Unauthorized: The Harvey Weinstein Project."

Barry Avrich's documentary on the Miramax Films co-founder traces his rise from concert promoter to the top of the indie film game as well as his relationships with his brother, staff and Hollywood at large.

"Harvey and Bob Weinstein, without a question, redefined so many rules of Hollywood marketing, distribution and filmmaking that you simply can't ignore their impact on history," Avrich said in a release.

"Barry has made an entertaining and provocative film that sheds a tremendous amount of light on what makes this legendary mogul tick," said IFC Films president Jonathan Sehring.

This is IFC Films’ third acquisition at the 2010 Toronto International Film Festival.  The company previously acquired James Gunn’s "Super" starring Rainn Wilson and Ellen Page, and Werner Herzog’s 3-D documentary "Cave of Forgotten Dreams."

Avrich earlier directed the documentary "The Last Mogul," on Lew Wasserman.
