Paramount and Disney are super-sizing the opening weekends of a couple of Christmas-time tentpoles.
The studio announced Wednesday that its "Mission: Impossible -- Ghost Protocol" will begin previews in IMAX and other theaters Dec. 16 -- five days before its scheduled Dec. 21 wide release.
And "The Adventures of Tintin," originally scheduled to be released Friday, Dec. 23, will instead come out Wednesday, Dec. 21.
Disney, meanwhile, pushed up the release of DreamWorks' "War Horse" by three days from Wednesday, Dec. 28 to Christmas Day.
Studios are increasingly opening holiday tentpoles early. "Transformers: Dark of the Moon" opened Wednesday, June 29 -- expanding the July 4 opening weekend to six days.
"Mission: Impossible" is the fourth in the franchise. It stars Tom Cruise and Jeremy Renner.
"Tintin" is Steven Spielberg's take on the the Belgian comic book. The motion capture film stars Daniel Craig and is about a young man who finds directions to a sunken ship -- and goes on a treasure hunt.
