Relativity Media, rather than Lionsgate, plans to release "Machine Gun Preacher," a Marc Forster film starring Gerard Butler, TheWrap has confirmed.

Lionsgate will still handle international rights to the movie, which is based on a true story. An individual familiar with the deal said that it's being negotiated now.

Relativity had space in its fall release lineup and Lionsgate didn't.

The story revolves around Sam Childers, an American outlaw biker who found religion and founded an orphanage in Sudan. There, he tried to protect children who were being conscripted into the military.

The movie, which shot in Detroit and South Africa, also stars Michelle Monaghan and Michael Shannon.

The movie was written by Jason Keller, based on "Another Man's War: The True Story of One Man's Battle to Save Children in the Sudan," by Childers.

Deadline first reported the news.
