SnagFilms Joins Starbucks' Upcoming Digital Channel

Snagfilms documentaries will be available to Starbucks wifi users when its digital network launches later this fall

SnagFilms is contributing its more than 1,600 documentary films to the Starbucks Digital Network, the coffee giant’s developing partnership with Yahoo! that will offer customers free access to premium content in its stores, CEO Howard Schultz announced Tuesday.

Titles from the documentary-focused SnagFilms library will be available to customers who visit Starbucks stores and access its free wi-fi in its more than 10,000 stories nationwide, Schultz announced at TheWrap’s media and entertainment industry conference TheGrill.

The Starbucks Digital Network, which Schultz said will launch this fall, will also offer free content from the Wall Street Journal that’s otherwise accessible only to subscribers, free song downloads, and other premium content.

Does Schultz really think customers to linger long enough to take in an entire documentary movie?

“I’ve seen people sit at a Starbucks for a long time watching things that … I wouldn’t expect,” Schultz said.

Snagfilms currently offers its free, ad-supported documentaries on its website, Snagfilms.com.
