Former personal assistant drops her lawsuit; no indication of out-of-court settlement
Steven Seagal’s former personal assistant has dropped her $1 million sexual harassment lawsuit against the action star.
Lawyers for Kayden Nguyen submitted documents Wednesday in L.A. Superior Court asking for the case, first filed in April, to be dismissed. There was no indication if an out of court settlement had been reached.
Production on “Lawman,” Seagal’s A&E cop show reality TV series set in Louisiana, was suspended by Jefferson Parish Sheriff Newell Normand as the case worked its way through the courts.
There was no response from either the sheriff or A&E as to whether the show would start up again now that the suit is over.
Attempts by TheWrap to reach Nguygen’s attorney William Waldo and Seagal’s attorney Marty Singer were not returned immediately
Nguyen’s original suit claimed that almost immediately after being hired by Seagal in February in Lafitte, Louisiana., the actor started treating her as “a sex toy” and keeping her trapped as a sex slave for several days.
Seagal also, according to the court filing, had two Russian women on staff "who were available for his sexual needs 24 hours a day, seven days a week." Nguyen was hired to replace one of the women who was leaving Seagal’s staff.
The 23-year old model claimed in her suit that even after she herself left Seagal’s employment in late February, the 58-year old actor and his employees tried to get her to return. In the suit, Nguyen, who says she left behind "everything of value she owned," claimed she was told she would not get the items back unless she signed an agreement stating she would not report Seagal’s sexual attacks.
A former martial arts instructor, Seagal became a star in the early 1990s with action hits like “Above the Law” and “Under Siege.” In recent years, the actor has featured more commonly in direct to DVD features, though he does appear in Robert Rodriguez’s upcoming Grindhouse homage “Machete” with Robert De Niro, Jessica Alba, Michelle Rodriguez, Don Johnson, and Lindsay Lohan. The film comes out on Sept. 3.
