Indomina and BET Acquire Sundance Crime Drama 'LUV'

"LUV," a coming-of-age story that premiered at Sundance, has been acquired by The Indomina Group and BET networks, the companies said Saturday.

Sheldon Candis directed the movie, which he wrote with Justin Wilson.

Wolfe Releasing Acquires Sundance Movie 'Mosquita y Mari'

Wolfe Releasing has picked up North American rights to "Mosquita y Mari," a coming-of-age tale that focuses on a love between two Latinas in Los Angeles, Wolfe said Tuesday.

The movie is writer-director Aurora Guerrero's first feature film.

Fenessa Pineda stars as Yolanda, a straight-A student in Los Angeles' Huntington Park. Venecia Troncoso plays Mari, Yolanda's study partner -- a girl who has recently moved to town with her undocumented family.

Wolfe is the largest distributor of gay and lesbian films.

Ice-T's Rap Documentary Sells to Indomina Group

The Indomina Group has acquired worldwide rights to Ice-T’s documentary “Something From Nothing: The Art of Rap,” the company said Sunday.

The sales price was not disclosed.

In the performance movie, Ice-T travels across the country, working with Afrika Bambaataa, Grandmaster Caz, Nas, Mos Def, Eminem, Chuck D, KRS-One, Run-DMC, Dr. Dre, Ice Cube and Snoop Dogg.

The movie, which Ice-T directed with Andy Baybutt, is a personal story of the music that saved Ice-T’s life.

The Weinstein Company has made its first  and only acquisition of this year's Sundance Film Festival, acquiring "Lay the Favorite" for VOD, the company confirmed.

The movie, by British director Stephen Frears, stars Rebecca Hall as a stripper turned numbers bookie. The film received decidedly mixed reviews at the festival.

The dramatic feature "Beasts of the Southern Wild" and the documentary "The House I Live In" won the top jury prizes at the 2012 Sundance Film Festival.

"Beasts of the Southern Wild," Benh Zeitlin's trippy bayou drama set in South Louisiana and starring a collection of non-actors, was the festival's most buzzed-about film since it debuted on the festival's second day. Fox Searchlight acquired the film earlier this week.

In an unusually busy deal-making Saturday, Magnolia has also acquired Julie Delpy’s “2 Days In New York,” the director-actress's follow-up to “2 Days in Paris."

Starring Delpy and with Chris Rock playing the straight man, the pair play a Manhattanite couple with two kids who have to endure a two-day visit from relatives that will test their relationship.

Delpy's father is played by her real-life father. Other characters include her oversexed sister and her sister’s outrageous boyfriend.

The Sundance Film Festival will announce its main awards on Saturday night – but in the meantime, the festival has given awards to several other films, from the new Sony Pictures Worldwide Acquisitions/Samuel Goldwyn Films acquisition "Robot & Frank" to a number of international and short films.

The Alfred P. Sloan Feature Film Prizes, which go to films that "explore science and technology themes or that depict scientists, engineers and mathematicians in engaging and innovative ways," were awarded to "Robot & Frank" and "Valley of Saints." The two films will split a $20,000 cash award, which is funded by the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation.
