Ratings: 'Voice' Carries NBC to Win as 'Splash' Sinks to Low

April, 17, 2013 9:03 am | Comments On #Golden Boy, ratings, splash, Television, voice

A steady "The Voice" carried NBC to a win in the key demographic Tuesday, as CBS won in total viewers -- even though two of its three shows were repeats -- according to preliminary numbers. ABC's new diving competition "Splash," meanwhile, sunk to a new low.

NBC won the 18-49 demo with a 2.4 rating/7 share and landed third in total viewers, averaging 6.8 million. At 8 p.m., "The Voice" scored a 4.5/14, even with last Tuesday's episode and matching its Tuesday season high. It had 13.8 million total viewers, making it the most-watched show of the night. From 9-11, the new reality competition "Ready for Love" had a 1.3/4 and 3.4 million, dragging down NBC's averages. It was down 13 percent in the key demo from last week's premiere.

CBS was second in the demo with a 1.6/5 and first in total viewers with 9.8 million....

'Friends' Reunion Not Happening, NBC Says - So Okay, Enough

April, 17, 2013 8:15 am | Comments On #Friends, NBC, reunion, rumor, Television, Thanksgiving

A "Friends" reunion isn't happening, NBC says, ruining the Internet's fun.

NBC tells TheWrap that reports of a new season or Thanksgiving special simply "aren't true." So enough with the tweets, everybody.

Last week, Starmedia said NBC had "reportedly confirmed" a new season of the show, without saying who reportedly reported the report. But that was enough to set off a slew of online speculation and Thanksgiving party planning.

But none of it is happening. Not a special and not a season. So if you keep posting on Facebook about what kind of pie Joey will bring to Thanksgiving, you're just going to look nuts. Yes, mom, I'm talking to you.

NBC's official shutdown of the reunion talk comes after...

Watch Stephen Colbert's Incredible Tribute to Boston (Video)

April, 17, 2013 6:53 am | Comments On #boston bombings, Colbert Report, marathon, Stephen Colbert, Television

Stephen Colbert delivered a beautiful, funny, stirring tribute to the strength of Boston in his first "Colbert Report" since the Boston Marathon bombings.

"Whoever did this obviously did not know s--- about the people of Boston," he said. "'Cause nothing these terrorists do is gonna shake them. For Pete's sake, Boston was founded by the pilgrims, a people so tough they had to buckle their goddamn hats on."

From there he praised everyone from the Boston Red Sox to Aerosmith to the marathon runners themselves, who he called "people who run 26 miles on their day off until their nipples are raw -- for fun."

Some of those runners, he said, kept...

Boston Bombings: Jon Stewart Thanks Boston for 'Inspiring and Solidifying My Belief in Humanity'

April, 17, 2013 6:35 am | Comments On #Boston, boston bombings, Daily Show, Jon Stewart, marathon, Television

Jon Stewart said on his first "Daily Show" since the Boston Marathon bombings that the city has solidified his belief in humanity and Americans.

"I'm just going to say this to Boston: Thank you," Stewart said. "Thank you for once again in the face of gross inhumanity inspiring and solidifying my belief in humanity and the people of this country.

Stewart noted that his own New York City and Boston have long had something of a competition, and accuse each other of "various levels of suckitude."

"But it is in situations like this where we realize it is a sibling rivalry," he said. "And we are your brothers and sisters in this type of event, as a city that knows the feelings of confusion, anger and grief and chaos that comes with these events. I can tell you from person experience: You've got a hell of a city...

Bravo's Andy Cohen on What Makes a 'Real Housewives' Spinoff; Bethenny's Future With Network

April, 16, 2013 3:13 pm | Comments On #Andy Cohen, Bravo, Television

Andy Cohen has definitely made the best of his programming executive level job at Bravo Media. Aside from becoming the face of the network and hosting its popular late night show, “Watch What Happens Live,” he was instrumental in developing and producing the network’s flagship “Real Housewives” franchise.

The same franchise, by the way, that he famously put a fork in when he announced in 2011 that the network wouldn’t be extending the series. But, did he really mean it?

“Well, I mean, I always say ‘never say never,’” Cohen, who’s currently promoting the paperback release of his autobiography, “Most Talkative,” told TheWrap.

“But, I think we’re pretty good and I still do think we are pretty good. I mean, we’ve got six going...

"The Voice" and news coverage of the Boston marathon bombings pushed NBC to an overall win Monday night, while CBS's Monday night primetime roster returned after three weeks off, hitting or matching ratings lows across the board, according to preliminary numbers.

NBC grabbed first place in the advertiser-sought 18-49 demographic with a 4.5 rating/12 share and in total viewers with 12.5 million. "The Voice" at 8 p.m. inched up in the demo from last Monday for a 5.1/14 and drew the night's largest audience with 14.3 million total viewers.

The news special "Terror in Boston" at 10, which preempted Revolution," improved markedly -- as would be expected -- on that show's previous episode, drawing a 3.1/8 compared to "Revolution's" 2.3/6 last week and bringing in 8.4 million total viewers but only marginally...

April, 16, 2013 7:45 am | Comments On #bombing, Boston, boston bombings, Boston Marathon, Conan, Conan O'Brien, Television

Late night hosts didn't shy away from addressing the Boston Marathon bombings, with Craig Ferguson asking bluntly, "Is anybody else sick of this s---?"

Jimmy Kimmel and Boston's own Conan O'Brien also expressed their sorrow Monday, a night when Jay Leno, David Letterman, Jimmy Fallon, Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert were all off.

O'Brien, who grew up in Boston's neighboring Brookline and attended Harvard University across the Charles River in Cambridge, noted his close ties to the city.

"Boston's my hometown. It's where I grew up. It's where my family lives. So I wanted to take a moment to say, that like everyone here, my thoughts and prayers are with the people of Boston and everybody who's been affected by this absolutely senseless act," he said on TBS' "Conan."

"That said, it is...

April, 16, 2013 6:52 am | Comments On #boston bombings, Boston Marathon, Boston Marathon Bombing, Patton Oswalt, Paul Kozlowski, Television

Patton Oswalt said what many of us needed to hear after the Boston Marathon bombings: In a widely-circulated Facebook message, the actor-comedian promises that good people still outnumber the bad.

"I remember, when 9/11 went down, my reaction was, 'Well, I've had it with humanity,'" wrote the "King of Queens" and "Ratatouille" star.

"But I was wrong," he added. "I don't know what's going to be revealed to be behind all of this mayhem. One human insect or a poisonous mass of broken sociopaths. But here's what I DO know. If it's one person or a HUNDRED people, that number is not even a fraction of a fraction of a fraction of a percent of the population...
