Universal has tapped William Broyles Jr. ("Flags of Our Fathers," "Apollo 13") to adapt "The Story of Edgar Sawtelle," a drama being produced by Playtone and Harpo Films.
Based on the novel by David Wroblewski, the story centers on a mute teenager named Edgar Sawtelle, who, after the mysterious death of his father, runs away into the Northwoods of Wisconsin with three of the extraordinary dogs his family raises and trains.
Tom Hanks and Gary Goetzman produce via Playtone, while Oprah Winfrey and Kate Forte produce via Harpo.
