The oldest, classiest film organization has joined forces with a more recent, upstart group. The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences will begin archiving posters commissioned by the Alamo Drafthouse in Austin, Texas. Alamo commissions and sells its own posters for films shown at the theater.
Alamo's boutique, Mondo, creates and sells more than 120 limited-edition silkscreens annually. Those posters will be added to the more than 38,000 posters collected and preserved by the Academy's Margaret Herrick Library.
A complete archive of all Alamo's posters can be found here.
