Andrew Garfield, fresh off his Broadway debut in "Death of a Salesman," beat out an array of actors for the coveted role of Peter Parker in the "Spider-Man" reboot.

In "The Amazing Spider-Man," Emma Stone plays Gwen Stacey, a role played by Bryce Dallas Howard in "Spider-Man 3."

When asked about the expectations he faced in rebooting the franchise, director Marc Webb said: "It was terrifying and exciting. But the kid in me was like 'are you kidding me? You gotta do this!'"

While he is best known for playing the scene-stealing roommate in "Notting Hill," Rhys Ifans (with actress Anna Friel) is taking a serious turn in the role of Dr. Curt Connors, a.k.a. The Lizard.

Denis Leary's police Captain Stacy provides plenty of complications for Gwen's romance with the title character.

Martin Sheen again takes on a fatherly role, this time playing Peter Parker's Uncle Ben.

Academy Award-winner Sally Field chose to play Aunt May without even reading the script.

"The Amazing Spider-Man" needed two theaters to accommodate its Los Angeles premiere Thursday night in Westwood. Fans lined the streets surrounding the Regency Village and Regency Bruin theaters to catch a glipse of the new Peter Parker and Gwen Stacy, played by real-life couple Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone. Garfield and Rhys Ifans, who plays the Dr. Curt Collins as well as the film's villainous Lizard, strayed from the carpet to sign autographs and get their photos taken with some members of the crowd who weren't lucky enough to get close to the action. Sony Pictures Co-Chairman Amy Pascal joined the cast on the red carpet and gave a rousing welcome to the audience, eager to see the film, which opens in theaters on July 3.
