Comic-Con 2012: From 'Breaking Dawn' to 'Expendables 2,' Geek Fest Starts With a Bang (Slideshow)

New "Community' showrunners David Gurascio and Nick Port vowed that the comedy would not drop in quality in the wake of the exit of show creator Dan Harmon. Star Joey McHale (with castmate Ken Jeong) avoided the subject altogether, instead focusing on the fan of the show: “There wouldn’t have been a season 4 without you guys."

At the "Firefly" reunion panel, creator Joss Whedon, center with Nathan Fillion and Summer Glau, told the fans that if he had known the show was going to be canceled, "I don't think I would have killed anybody."

Kodi Smit-McPhee voices Norman, the kid at the center of the stop-motion animated film "ParaNorman," who can speak with the dead and must save his town from a raging troupe of zombies.

The "Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn -- Part 2" panel started off on a somber note, with an expression of condolences to the family of a fan killed by a car outside the festival this week. But before long, stars Taylor Lautner, Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson teased the crowd about what they can look forward to in the final installment of the mega-grossing vampire romance.

Two 1980s action gods shared the stage in Hall H on Thursday. Sylvester Stallone and Arnold Schwarzenegger gave each other a muscular handshake and talked up their upcoming action flick, "The Expendables 2." The former California governor referenced a famous line from his "Terminator" past to get the panel going, greeting the audience with, "I’m back."

Sam Raimi, Mila Kunis and Michelle Williams took the geek set down the Yellow Brick Road for a look at their upcoming "Oz: The Great and Powerful." The film re-imagines the wizard's journey to the mystical land of Oz and co-stars James Franco. It hits theaters next March.

It was Mighty Morphin' time as Comic-Con celebrated the 20th anniversary of Power Rangers.

John C. Reilly was literally animated at Comic-Con this year. The fedora-sporting Oscar nominee was on hand at Disney's panel Thursday to tout his voice work in "Wreck-It Ralph.” The studio's upcoming animated film centers on a 1980s arcade game baddie who journeys across a video game landscape to prove he's a nice guy after all. It opens this winter.

Why so serious? Heath Ledger's iconic performance as the Joker in "The Dark Knight" continues to inspire convention-wear.

Tim Burton enjoys almost god-like status among the Comic-Con crowd. He ventured to San Diego this year to drum up enthusiasm for his upcoming stop-motion feature "Frankenweenie."

Sans C-3PO, R2-D2 makes an appearance at Comic-Con

The annual San Diego-based geek confab has become a major launching pad for movies and shows. Films featured on its first day included "The Expendables 2," "Lone Ranger" and "Oz, the Great and Powerful."

Tween hearts melted as Stewart, Taylor Lautner, and Robert Pattinson gathered together in Hall H for one final hurrah: their upcoming "The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn -- Part 2," ends one of Hollywood's biggest franchises.
