James L. Brooks' romantic comedy "How Do You Know" has been granted a PG-13 rating from the MPAA.
Last week, the MPAA's Classification and Rating Appeals Board (CARA) upheld the organization's initial R-rating, which was given for language.
The film's producers then agreed to alter one curse word (the F-word, which will now be half-uttered in one instance), although the decision does not threaten to compromise the vision or integrity of the picture.
Reese Witherspoon, Paul Rudd, Owen Wilson and Jack Nicholson star in the movie, which Columbia will release on Dec. 17 opposite "Tron: Legacy" and "Yogi Bear."
Brooks' last two films — "Spanglish" and "As Good As It Gets" — were both rated PG-13, and now that "How Do You Know" will have access to a younger audience, its box office potential is a lot closer to the latter movie than the former film.
