MTV Greenlights ‘Inbetweeners’ Adaptation, Four Other Series

A sleek British import spearheads the station’s latest pick-ups

The controversy over its recent "Skins" revamp isn't causing MTV to shy away from adapting other British fare.

The channel is adapting the UK comedy "The Inbetweeners" for what is probably a 2012 premiere date and has also picked up four unscripted series, an MTV source confirmed to TheWrap.

The "Inbetweeners" adaptation, which has been OK'd for 12 episodes, will be executive-produced by Brad Copeland of "Arrested Development" renown, along with Aaron Kaplan, Damon Beesly and Iain Morris.

Beesly and Morris created the original series, which followed suburban teenager Will and his friends.

MTV also picked up the reality series "FriendZone," from the creators of "Jersey Shore."

In the new offering, teens will be set up on blind dates and solicit their friends for advice on the date, only to eventually discover that the friend is the blind date.

Other new series include "Savage U," a late-night offering in which sex-advice columnist Dan Savage dispenses carnal wisdom to college students, and the game shows "The Substitute" and "Money From Strangers."

The former is described as "Cash Cab" set in a classroom, while the latter will feature comedians convincing contestants to prank strangers.

News of MTV's new series was first reported by EW.com.
