MTV Movie Awards: Kevin Hart Endures Height Jokes, Praises Kids in Comedic Genius Award Speech

Jimmy Kimmel presents “The Wedding Ringer” and “Get Hard” star with golden popcorn trophy

Kevin Hart was the target of much attention and many jokes at the 2015 MTV Movie Awards, but he took it with a smile and got the last laugh as he received the Comedic Genius Award.

“It wasn’t easy for Kevin. They said Kevin was too small to be a comedy giant,” Jimmy Kimmel joked in his introduction before presenting the Golden Popcorn to the comedian.

The jokes came after the show’s host, Amy Schumer, also singled out Hart’s height during her opening monologue, poking fun at the prolific actor, who has already been in “The Wedding Ringer” and “Get Hard” in 2015.

When Hart accepted his award though, he got serious, thanking his fiancee as well as his ex-wife, who mothered his two children, Heaven and Hendrix.

“These two beautiful kids…are my best friends,” he said. “At the end of the day, you all wonder why I work so hard. My kids are with me because I do it all for them. And I’m trying to leave a legacy behind so when it’s all said and done, the last name Hart means something.”

Hart is the second person to receive the Comedic Genius Award. Last year, his “Get Hard” co-star Will Ferrell took home the inaugural trophy.
