MTV Names its New ‘Twitter Jockey’

Gabi Gregg will represent the network on the popular social networking site

Gabi Gregg, a 23-year-old blogger from Chicago, was named as MTV's new "Twitter jockey" Sunday night.

MTV began its search for a "Twitter jockey" (or T.J.) back in June. The Twitter jockey will provide as the online counterpart to the on-air "video jockeys" that have hosted segments on the network since its debut in 1981.

Initially, 20 aspiring T.J.'s were selected by the network. That group was narrowed down to five finalists — four hand-picked by the network and one by fan voting — following nearly two months of challenges and contests.

Gregg was the finalist selected by fans. Ultimately, the final decision was based on a live vote, which she also won. Gregg goes by the Twitter handle @gabifresh and is the author of a plus-size fashion blog, "Young Fat and Fabulous." She will start using the account @MTVTJ as part of her new gig.

Gregg begins working at MTV right away; the position comes with a six-figure salary.

After winning the contest, Gregg took to — where else? — Twitter to thank her supporters.

"I cannot express my gratitude in 140 characters. I love all of you so much," Gregg wrote.
