MTV’s 2014 Video Music Awards will air live on Aug. 24 from the recently reinvented Forum in Inglewood, Calif.

The Forum, which first raised its curtains in 1967, reopened in January following a complete remodel. Since then it has hosted the Eagles, Justin Timberlake, Imagine Dragons, Paul Simon with Sting, and Kings of Leon.

As the host for the NBA Champion “Showtime” Los Angeles Lakers and music legends such as The Rolling Stones, The Jackson 5, Bob Dylan, Madonna, and Prince, among others, the venue boasts a rich history across industries.

Jesse Ignjatovic/Den of Thieves will serve as executive producer for the 2014 “MTV Video Music Awards,” along with Amy Doyle, Garrett English and Dave Sirulnick are executive producers. Joanna Bomberg, Jen Jones and Lee Lodge are co-exec producers. Hamish Hamilton will direct and Wendy Plaut will serve as celebrity talent executive.

The 2013 MTV VMAs were a ratings and social media hit. The awards show ranked as cable’s No. 1 entertainment telecast of the year among viewers 12-34 at the time, garnering a total audience of 10.1 million viewers — a 66 percent increase versus 2012.

The ratings jumped 47 percent compared to the previous year’s telecast, delivering a 7.8 in the demo. The encore showing was also a success, thanks in part to the major water cooler moment of Miley Cyrus twerking on Robin Thicke during their shared performance.

“I am thrilled to welcome the MTV Video Music Awards to the Forum in Inglewood,” James T. Butts, mayor, City of Inglewood, said in a statement. “Since its reopening in January, the ‘Fabulous’ Forum has become the destination for music-lovers in Southern California. A truly historic location, and home to some of the greatest concerts and sporting events, the Forum is back, better than ever and ready to shine for decades more.”

“With its incomparable legacy as a world class music venue, the Forum is one of Southern California’s most iconic entertainment landmarks,” added Stephen Friedman, president of MTV.  “The Forum has hosted some of the most legendary musical artists and performances ever seen and we can’t wait to add the 2014 Video Music Awards to this list and create the type of memorable moments that music fans will talk about for years to come.”
