MTV’s SVP of Scripted Clay Spencer Departs Network

Clay Spencer's departure comes a day after MTV appoints new programming president to replace his former boss

MTV's programming department has experienced another shakeup. Clay Spencer, MTV's senior vice president of scripted programming, departed the network Tuesday, an individual with knowledge of the situation told TheWrap.

Spencer's departure comes a day after the appointment of Lifetime and the WB veteran Susanne Daniels as MTV's president of programming, replacing outgoing programming president David Janollari. Janollari opted not to renew his contract after three years with MTV.

Prior to his tenure at MTV, Spencer — who came aboard MTV with Janollari — served as head of development at David Janollari Productions. Spencer opted to depart following Janollari's decision to leave the network.

As MTV's vice president of scripted programming, Spencer had a part in such network offerings as "I Just Want My Pants Back" and "The Inbetweeners."

Justin Levy, MTV's co-head of scripted development who's responsible for the series "Awkward" and "Teen Wolf," is remaining with the network.

Deadline first reported the news of Spencer's departure.
