Music Box Films has acquired United States and Canadian distribution rights to “Any Day Now,” a new film from writer-director Travis Fine.
The film chronicles a gay couple that takes in a mentally handicapped teenager in the 1970s. When the authorities hear of the living arrangement, the couple goes to court to fight for their right to adopt the boy.
"This is a story that has waited a long time to be told,” Music Box’s Ed Arentz said in a statement. “With Travis Fine at the helm, the film is as powerful as it is memorable and it features outstanding lead performances headlined by the brilliant Alan Cumming and Garret Dillahunt."

Inspired by a true story, the film won the audience award at the Tribeca Film Festival, the Seattle International Film Festival and Outfest.
George Arthur Bloom and Fine co-wrote it, while Cumming and Dillahunt star as the couple. It will be released theatrically in December.
