Tupac Hologram Joins Snoop Dogg at Coachella (Video)

Rappers reunite during Snoop Dogg's set with Dr. Dre

Tupac Shakur and Snoop Dogg shared a stage Sunday night more than 15 years after Shakur's death thanks to an incredibly lifelike hologram of the rapper during Snoop Dogg and Dr. Dre's Coachella performance.

The apparition both reminded viewers of the Shakur's enduring influence and presence in hip-hop, and of his absence. moved like a character in an extremely detailed videogame: fluidly, but without the spontaneity for which Tupac was famous. It was shocking and unsettling, but also imaginitive and, well, awesome. He looked like a ghost, because he kind of was.

Tupac's image and recorded voice dueted with Snoop on "Hail Mary" and "2 of Amerikaz Most Wanted" before the Tupac figure, dressed in baggy jeans and workboots, gave a peace sign, lowered his hand, and stood as if catching his breath. As angelic voices rose, he disappeared in a flash of white light.

Snoop and Dre's set, which marked the two decades since they first collaborated like songs like "Deep Cover" and "Nuthin' But a G Thang," also featured guest performances by Eminem, 50 Cent, and Wiz Khalifa — the real ones.
