MSNBC's Andrea Mitchell Announces She Has Breast Cancer on Air

The show host and reporter says the prognosis is positive

MSNBC show host and reporter Andrea Mitchell announced on her show “Andrea Mitchell Reports” Wednesday that she has breast cancer, but that the prognosis is encouraging.

Mitchell had planned to be hiking last week, but instead discovered she is “now among the one in eight women in this country — incredibly, one in eight — who have had breast cancer.”

It was discovered at the earliest stage, meaning it has not spread, enabling Mitchell to return to work.

Mitchell then explained her commitment to the cause, which has only deepened since her diagnosis.

"For you women out there and for the men who love you, screening matters," Mitchell said. "Do it. This disease can be completely curable, if you find it at the right time."
